A while ago some of my colleagues organized a teambuilding activity for several of our departments. We would take a food and quiz tour through Leuven.
Our guide awaited us at the central Laudeuzeplein where she divided our group of 17 in 3 smaller groups. We would compete against each other by answering several questions about the city.
Our first stop was the University Library, right on the Ladeuzeplein. We got some historical information and then the guide posed a first question.
We all had received a notebook to scribble down our answers and after that was done, we headed to our first food destination: bar and restaurant De Blauwe Schuit, just off the Vismarkt.
We were a bit disappointed that we couldn’t sit outside with our big group, but our disappointment was quickly forgotten as we all heard our next assignment: we would all get a cocktail and we would have to guess the four ingredients, out of which that cocktail was made. As I practically never drink I thought this was going to be impossible for me, but I accomplished to taste the orange juice and Pisang either way! My team members got the other ingredients: gin and Safari.
After a few sips I gladly offered the rest of my drink to a colleague and attacked the little appetizers we’d gotten in the mean time. As the others seemed hungry as well, I couldn’t get a shot of an intact dish, but here are some pictures to give you an idea of what we got:
When we were finished the guide took us out again to enlighten us some more about the history of Leuven and to test our knowledge some more. We went to the exact center of the city before heading to our main meal of the evening: a lovely paella served at de Dry Tonghen, also located on the Vismarkt. No questions to answer here, so we could just enjoy our meal.
After the paella we studied the ornaments of City Hall and walked along the Dijleterassen, all while answering questions and learning about Leuven.
We concluded the evening at the Convento Winebar (Mechelsestraat), where we tasted a delicious strip of chocolate pie accompanied by a special wine or some grape juice for those who wanted to keep it more sober (like me).
After dessert, the moment supreme: who had one our little contest? Which group had gotten the most answers right? Well, my group did! We won some candy that we shared with our other (losing, hah!) colleagues at work the next day.
The tour was a success. Our guide Jeanine gave enough information, but also adapted to our group. She was a fun person who laughed and talked with us. The teambuilding definitely did what it was supposed to do: I don’t think any of us had had so much work-related fun in a long time!
Practical information
We did our tour with Vizit. They organize tours in several Belgian cities. Want to know more? Then have a look at their website.
